LOCAL EVENT:

Avon Wildlife Trust and Nailsea Climate Emergency Group are teaming up to show how local residents can help the North Somerset Levels and Moors while making their own homes more climate resilient. These moors are one of the most important landscapes in the country, wetlands forming lowland peat act as a vital habitat for wildlife while being incredible at storing carbon.

Over the last two decades, Avon Wildlife Trust has been working in this region to understand how human activity has changed this landscape, and how this links to the decline in nature that we can all see.

On Saturday 28 March, Jen Robertson, Avon Wildlife Trust’s Nature and Climate Manager, will be hosting two ‘Our Magical Moors’ events at Nailsea Methodist Church with Nailsea Climate Emergency Group. They’ll be sharing their knowledge about our beautiful, boggy moors and advise on what we can do in our own homes to help them and future-proof against the impact of climate breakdown.

From 2pm – 4.30pm, they’ll be running a family-friendly drop-in session, with storytelling, crafts and cake. Then later that evening, from 7pm – 9pm, they’ll be holding a panel discussion with guests from North Somerset Council, Wessex Water and Belmont Estate, to talk about the serious challenges the moors are facing and how these will affect the local community. The panel will discuss what makes this incredible landscape so special, the work being done to protect it and what residents can do to help.

January 2026

We have changed the structure of our charity Nailsea Environment & Wildlife Trust and have now become a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO).  This involves closing our unincorporated charity and re-registering with the Charity Commission giving us a new Charity Number 1216292.

The purpose of our charity has not changed, being to promote for the benefit of the public the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment by promoting biological diversity, and to advance the education of the public in the consideration, protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment.

Our name NEWT, Nailsea Environment & Wildlife Trust and the trustees remain the same.  Our bank accounts have had to change and we would be grateful to receive any donations direct to our new NEWT account 52-21-39 35543914.

We value and welcome all supporters and without the support of these volunteers it would be impossible to continue to maintain the site.  Thank you to you all.
